This newsletter provides a quick update on changes to the Minimum Wages Act, and advice on the pending changes to the web site.
Minimum Wages Act
From 24 March 2003 new statutory minimum wage rates will apply to all employees aged 16 and over.
The minimum wage for youths increases to $6.80 per hour ($54.40 for an 8 hour day, or $272 for a 40 hour week).
The minimum wage for adults increases to $8.50 per hour ($68.00 for an 8 hour day, or $340.00 for a 40 hour week). This adult rate applies to those aged 18 and over.
Employees must be paid no less than the statutory minimum wage for their age whether they are full time, part time or casual employee, a home worker, or paid wholly or partly by commission, or on a piece rate.
The hourly rate also applies for each hour worked in excess of 8 per day or in excess of 40 per week.
The minimum wage does not apply to those who hold under-rate permits and persons undergoing specific training in some occupations.

Web site update - subscription service
PHA Consultants have over the past months developed a relationship with EVP Holdings and as a result the subscription service is to be transferred to EVP’s website. This will provide long term growth and enhancement of the site leading to an improved service to subscribers.
All existing subscribers will continue to have normal access to this service at current subscription rates; however the URL (website address) will change in the near future. We are excited about this development and the potential for providing a better service to clients utilizing the benefits of EVP’s marketing and administrative support, plus back-up from their Human Resource, Recruitment and Accounting consultants.
PHA Consultants will still be involved in the management of the documents contained in the site but will now have the additional support of EVP. We are currently in the process of organising the transfer of data across to the EVP website. When this is ready to go live we will advise all subscribers of the new website address.
